that time i went to go see fifty shades of grey

Despite the fact I find Fifty Shades of Grey a romanticized story about an abusive asshole, I did read the books and obviously had to go see this train wreck in person. I went and saw it on Valentines Days (well, the night before but whatever) with my boyfriend. People thought it was weird that I took him with me, but like.. who else would I have taken? He has heard my feminist rants concerning Fifty Shades, so he was kind of dragged into it. The first time the poor guy was dragged into Fifty Shades is when he mistakenly made fun of my ass for re-reading the first book. I made him read THE SCENE (aka the one with the tampon) and he probably never forgave me.

When we arrived literally nobody was in the theater but us, so we got the best seats in the house, despite me wanting to sit in the back of the theater so I could watch everyone else. Eventually, like, 10 more people came in and that was it. We basically watched soft-core porn with 10 other people, except I think soft-core porn usually has a better handle on what BDSM actually is.

Well, the one really good thing about Fifty Shades was that it has a pretty good soundtrack. I bought it and I listen to it from time to time. Everything else pretty much sucked. I will admit that the movie was a hell of a lot better than the book, but that really isn't saying much. They removed a couple questionable scenes (TAAAAMPON SCENE) from the movie which I think everybody was thankful for. But other than that, the movie mostly made me uncomfortable. I'm not awkward in the least bit when it comes to talking about sex, hearing about it, or whatever. I'm in a human sexuality class, which I find absolutely fascinating. But the characters had no chemistry so it was kind of like being back in middle school, playing truth or dare and daring your friend to kiss the guy she thought was cute, but clearly had no future with. The other really uncomfortable part was IDK, the part where he spanks her. That part just gives BDSM such a bad rep that I can't even. Safe, sane and consensual guys. Given the fact Christian Grey is probably a sociopath, he should have been able to see that she was not handling this well, we all know that Anastasia is number one, new to this lifestyle, number two, kind of a dumbass, and should have safe worded himself when he saw how uncomfortable and upset she was.. GAHHH. EL James, PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH. I'm literally in a class in SCHOOL, have not partaken in the BDSM lifestyle, and STILL probably know more about it then she does.

The fact people romanticize this whole book makes me sad. I wish that they could have taken a taboo subject, such as BDSM, and made into something where it wasn't portrayed as a lifestyle people that are "fifty shades of fucked up" partake in. Plenty of normal, and healthy people are a part of it. GAHHH. I feel like I'm kind of just ranting about this now, but thats another post for another day. I'm just going to watch a movie that isn't terrible now.

later.
